Live jazz, handcrafted cocktails, chef-crafted soul food, and the kind of grown-folks atmosphere you don't find everywhere. Since 2022, the Soothing Tunes Room has been Flint & Burton's classiest hang.
"I wanted a calm place where my generation could relax, listen to real live music, and feel taken care of."
In August of 2022, local businessman Sheldon Banks transformed the old Pachyderm Pub into something Flint had been missing — a proper jazz lounge. A $300,000 renovation brought a centered bar, a stage that brings the music eye-level with the crowd, gas-fire pits on the patio, and interiors that feel more Midtown Manhattan than mid-Michigan.
Today it's Flint's go-to for great food, live music, and a relaxing, grown-folks atmosphere. Chef-crafted dishes. Handcrafted drinks. Weekly events in a lounge setting. Perfect for date nights, gatherings, or a night out with good vibes.
The Raphael Banks Jazz Band on regular rotation, plus national jazz masters passing through — Ralphe Armstrong, Black Rose Band, Alexander Zonjic, Straight Ahead. Not background noise. The main event.
A scratch kitchen rooted in Southern soul tradition with a modern edge. Plates made to pair with the music — shareable, satisfying, properly seasoned.
A full bar at the heart of the room, pouring classic cocktails, bourbon flights, and house specialties. Bartenders who remember your name — and your order.
We bring the music down to the crowd. No barrier, no balcony — just a stage that feels like it's in the room with you. — Sheldon Banks, Founder
A soul-food kitchen built for the lounge — comfort dishes done with technique, paired with craft drinks made to sit beside live music.
"The classy vibes make you want to keep coming back for more. Live jazz, amazing drinks, staff that treats you like family — it's a one-of-a-kind environment."Flint's #1-Rated Jazz & Blues Lounge
